Department of Institutional Advancement

Role: Senior Fundraising Executive

The Institutional Advancement department is responsible for raising more than $1.6 million in donations through special events, grants, and direct solicitation of gifts from individuals, companies and foundations.

Position Summary:

The Institutional Advancement Senior Fundraising Executive is a supervisory position that focuses on the improvement of the organization through fundraising activities. The senior executive will work to achieve success in the areas of major gifts, special events, donor recognition events and foundation grant writing. 

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to: Director of Institutional Advancement

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead in the development and execution of specific annual giving programs including major gifts, special events and grant writing.
  • Supervise the fundraising executive position. 
  • Provide staff support/direction to volunteers for assigned fundraising activities.
  • Design and implement a donor stewardship program. 
  • Engage in prospect research for the purpose of identifying new donors.
  • Utilize the database management tool (Blackbaud) and Excel spreadsheets to track progress.
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors at all levels.
  • Support and implement the mission, vision, and values of the Dan Beard Council.

Minimum Education, Experience and Other Skill Requirements:

  • At least five years related non-profit experience and a Bachelor's degree
  • Has experience conducting successful special events
  • A dynamic, well-rounded and engaging personality with a strong commitment to quality work and understands the importance of volunteer engagement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to effectively collaborate and interact with staff and volunteers
  • Be process oriented and also able to function within a reasonable degree of autonomy and independent discretion 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite programs and donor tracking software
  • The ability to interpret and analyze data
  • Extremely organized with a demonstrated background of effectively managing multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
  • Willingness to attend occasional evening and weekend events
  • Ability to attend infrequent out-of-town training sessions

Work Environment:

Work locations will include a combination of the organization’s office, external workplace environments with volunteers and outdoor settings (for special events). 

Physical activities and requirements:

Candidate is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend and do light lifting.

The ideal candidate will work to achieve success in the areas of special events, direct mail, newsletter creation and support of our young professional organization. On an ongoing basis, the executive will assist in creating awareness and support for the council.

Reports to: Senior Fundraising Executive

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead in the development and execution of specific annual giving programs including special events and a direct mail campaign.
  • Provide staff support/direction to volunteers for assigned fundraising activities.
  • Support the efforts of our young professional organization.
  • Plan, prepare and coordinate the distribution of a quarterly newsletter.
  • Engage in prospect research for the purpose of identifying new donors.
  • Utilize the database management tool (Blackbaud) for areas of responsibility. 
  • Track progress of special event fundraising with Excel campaign reports.
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors at all levels.
  • Support and implement the mission, vision, and values of the Dan Beard Council.

Minimum Education, Experience and Other Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (required)
  • Fundraising experience (preferred)
  • A dynamic, well-rounded and engaging personality, with a strong commitment to quality work
  • An understanding of the importance of volunteer engagement

Field Staff

Role: District Executive

The Dan Beard Council is seeking a highly motivated, goal driven individual to serve as District Executive as part of the council's staff team.

Within an assigned community/area, the district executive will work to promote Scouting with these responsibilities:  

  • Work with volunteers, including community and business leaders, to identify, recruit, train, and guide team to achievement of goals which include: program development through collaborative relationships, volunteer recruitment and training, fundraising, membership recruitment and retention.
  • Be responsible for extending Scouting programs to religious, civic, fraternal, educational, and other community-based organizations.
  • Work to raise adequate financial support for programs in assigned area.
  • Ensure that all key programs are served through volunteers, regular leader meetings, training events, and activities.
  • Collaborate with adult volunteers and oversee achievement of training for their respective roles.
  • Be a good role model and recognize the importance of working relationships with other professionals and volunteers. The district executive must have communication skills and be able to explain the program’s goals and objectives to the public.
  • Provide quality service through timely communication, regular meetings, training events and activities.
  • Have a willingness and ability to devote long and irregular hours to achieve council and district objectives.

Desired Skills:

  • Background in marketing, fundraising, and volunteer organization is highly desired. Sales experience is a plus.
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking and interacting with diverse audiences. Excellent people skills, enthusiastic, punctual, responsible, and creative.
  • Self-motivated individual with solid time management skills and strong organizational skills in management, budgeting, and planning.
  • Committed to personal and professional productivity, while maintaining high ethical and professional working standards.

Requirements:

  • Must be willing to accept and meet the Boy Scout of America’s leadership and membership standards and subscribe to the Scout Oath and Law.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (transcript with the date degree conferred stated is required for employment).
  • Attained age of 21 years or older.
  • Ability to work varied hours when necessary, evening activities and weekend work is frequently required to achieve positive objectives.  
  • A Scouting background is helpful, but not required for employment.
