Welcome to Scouting in the Baden-Powell Style!

The Patrol Method is not just a way to do scouting, it is the only way-

What is NYLT?
National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an exciting and powerful program designed to provide members of the Boy Scouts of America with leadership skills and experience they can use to lead themselves and others. This week-long outdoor experience represents a month in the model life of a typical Scout unit.

The NYLT course centers on the concepts of what a leader must

BE, KNOW, and DO.

What is its purpose?
The purpose of NYLT is to support the Unit Adult’s training of the youth leaders. The objectives of the course are to:
  • Provide a toolbox of leadership skills
  • Relate these skills to leading in their unit
  • Instill knowledge and confidence to run the unit program
  • Enhance relationship between the Scout and the unit
  • Share ideas and experiences with other Scouts
  • Experience Scouting at its best
  • Have fun!

What will Scouts do at NYLT?
Every day is filled with activity. The concepts of what a leader must BE, must KNOW, and must DO are taught, demonstrated, and lived in the out of doors. Immediate use of new ideas is stressed in a fun atmosphere based on the principles of Scouting. Everything we do is applicable to unit leadership back home. Participants are taught by skilled Scout staff members and veteran adult leaders. The days are very full.

In order to attend an NYLT course, a youth must have the  following qualifications by the  beginning of the  course:

■ Must  be a registered member of a Scouting unit.

■ Must  have a current BSA Health and Medical Record  form parts A, B, and C.

■ Boy Scouts  and Varsity Scouts  must be 13 years of age and fall within the maximum age allowance for their program registration. They  must be a First Class Scout  and have completed Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops.

■ Venturers and Sea Scouts  (male and female) must be at least  14, or 13 and have completed eighth grade, and fall within the  maximum age allowance for their program. They  must have completed Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews  or Ships.  It is recommended that they have had at least  one year  of camping experience.

■ Have a unit leader recommendation.
