What is University of Scouting?
The University of Scouting is a one-day leader training program designed to provide ideas and resources in areas to benefit your Pack, Troop or Crew. The University of Scouting is offered once a year to assist ALL Scout volunteers in their Scouting positions.
This year’s University of Scouting will be celebrating Skills, Knowledge, and Fellowship. We have been revising and changing the courses to be up with the times and needs of all our adult leaders whether in Cubs Scouts, Boy Scouts, or Venturing. It’s a whole New Century of Scouting. It’s time for new Ideas, new thoughts, and new courses.
It will be held from 8:30 to 5:00 at Seven Hills High School on Saturday, November 5, 2011 starting in their Auditorium. All courses are open to all Scouters for you to choose from. Come, learn, have fun, and meet other Scouters. There will be a Midway of interesting booths to view when you are not in classes and pick up literature on Parks, activities, the Zoo, and interesting outings; and the Scout Shop will be there.

Every boy deserves a trained leader, and every leader deserves to be trained! You can help deliver a stronger Scouting program for your Scouts by becoming an officially “Trained” leader. Through online training modules and volunteer-led courses throughout the summer at Camp Friedlander, you can be the best leader you can be.
During the Summer of Training campaign (June 1 – August 31, 2011), all training courses are FREE! We are encouraging every registered leader to become fully trained in anticipation of the mandatory training requirement effective in 2012, and this summer is the perfect time to finish your journey on the trail to trained status.
Available only during the summer is a special, limited edition T3 council shoulder patch. T3 reminds us of the answer that Scouting founder Lord Baden-Powell gave when asked what the three most important needs of Scouting were – “Training! Training! Training!”

The Board of Directors of the Dan Beard Council believe that adult leader training is essential in ensuring that all registered youth receive the best Scouting program possible. Adult leader training help leaders get acquainted with the Scouting program, how it works and how to implement it, while delivering a fun and exciting experience for the youth. Therefore, units rechartering on or before December 31, 2010, a three year training initiative has been established to achieve a goal of 100% trained unit leaders.

The National Office has created a fun new gadget to check your training status! After logging onto MyScouting.org , click on “Training Validation” and you can check to see if your trainings have been recorded in the Council’s computer system.
We are encouraging all units to use this system to check the training status of all of their leaders. All you need is a list of everyone’s membership ID Numbers and you can review the training status of the registered adult leaders. A list of these numbers can be found on your charter paperwork or you can obtain a list from your District Professional.
