Honorees for the 2015 Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award Dinner included Total Quality Logistics; Jason Dunn, Cincinnati USA Convention & Visitors Bureau; Crystal German, Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber; and Joseph Waller, PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The objective of the ceremony is to raise funds to support OutREACH efforts in the Dan Beard Council and to recognize an individual or company for its involvement in helping create a better environment for low income or rural neighborhoods. This is in fulfillment of Dr. Young’s dream of justice and equality.

Dr. Whitney M. Young, Jr., became the executive director of the National Urban League in 1961, serving until his death. Under his leadership, the National Urban League grew exponentially, even co-sponsoring Dr. King’s historic March on Washington. Dr. Young fought for equal employment, improved housing and better education for African Americans; he counseled Presidents Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon. He also received the nation’s highest civilian award in 1968.

The annual service award dinner is in its fourth year and attracted over 100 guests, including local Scouts to participate in the program. The honorable Nadine Allen was the guest speaker for the event and WLWT-TV News 5 Anchor/ Reporter, Courtis Fuller, was the master of ceremonies.

Whether you are a new parent or have been involved in Scouting for several years now, you will be amazed by the amount of Scouting support around you.  Other parents, Unit Leaders, Unit Commissioners, professional staff and more, help to make up a Scouting network of support.  Together, we provide the Scouting program to over 33,000 youth in the Dan Beard Council.

The council is sub-divided into eight districts that are directly reponsible for the operation of the Scouting units within geographic areas. Each district is staffed by volunteers and at least one professional responsible for the successful delivery of the Scouting program. Districts provide volunteer trainings, programs such as camporees and Pinewood Derbies, commissioner service, and other functions to support Packs, Troops, and Crews.
