to serve as part of our camp staff. This life-changing opportunity is a
great, fun, and rewarding place to be. Apply today to be a part of
something special.

Why be on Camp Staff?
Do you like working with youth? Do you
think you have skills you can share with others? Do you want to make a
difference in the lives of young people? Then Camp Staff is for you!
Imagine living at a camp for the summer and working, playing, and
learning in the outdoors. You'll meet plenty of new friends, some that
may stick with you for the rest of your life. You'll get some great new
experiences too as you challenge yourself.
Camp Staff members are given room and board for the summer in either a
cabin shared with other camp staff or in a large tent with electricity.
Some cabins have air conditioning, refrigerator, stove, and high speed
internet and cable access. Staff members over the age of 14 are
compensated competitively compared to other camps. Three meals a day are
provided, as are many of the amenities of life such as laundry
facilities.

What Does the Camp Staff Do?
The camp staff runs activities, plans
programs, and instructs the thousands of campers that come through our
summer camps. All staff are part of the Dan Beard Scout Reservation, but
there are two camp staffs. The Camp
Friedlander
staff provides programs for Boy Scout aged boys (11 through 17) and the
Cub World/Challenge Camp staff provides programs for Cub Scout aged boys
(7 through 11) for the Cub World program
and ages 7 through 15 for the Challenge Camp Program.
The Camp Friedlander staff consists of about 80 camp staff. This staff
focuses on instructing and providing merit badge classes for Boy Scouts.
If you have outdoor skills, like teaching, and believe in the values of
Scouting, this staff may be for you! Camp Friedlander staff are employed
from June 7, 2008 through August 3, 2008 (dates may change due to camper
attendance).
The Cub World / Challenge Camp staff consists of about 40 camp staff.
This staff runs games and creates age-appropriate programs for younger
boys. For the Challenge Camp program, the camp staff have the rewarding
duty of providing an outdoor experience to inner-city youth. If you
enjoy working with younger boys, like to perform in front of groups, and
want to make a difference, this staff may be for you!

What Camp Staff
Members Have to Say
"If I can make an impact on one camper's life, then I know I'm doing a
good job. That is why I find myself coming back to work on camp staff
year after year." - Megan
"There is no better feeling to than to know you have helped a kid row a
boat, paddle a canoe, or camp outside in the woods for the first time in
their life. That for me is the best thing that happens at camp." -
Skippy
"My first year on camp staff I was surprised by the number of
returning staff and how inviting they were. We are a family and we are
always looking for new members." - Joel
"As a camper, my favorite place in the world was camp, and my favorite
people were the camp staff. As a staff member, that's only been
enhanced." - Nick

Staff Orientation Event
This
year’s Staff Orientation Event will be held on April 26-27 at camp and we want all staff to attend. We are doing things a little different this
year, and will be having overnighter on Saturday night. The purpose of this event is to help get you
ready for camp, get to know each other, get a head start on some of our
training, and organize some of our programs.
Staff
Orientation Day will begin at 10am on Saturday, April 26. All staff will meet at the Camp Friedlander
Dining Hall to start and eventually break up into each one of the camps. You can be picked up from your camp at 10am
on Sunday, April 27. You are asked to
wear your uniform if you have one, bring a change of clothes and any other items
you will need to stay overnight (beds will be provided, but you will need to
bring a sleeping bag or bedding). Also,
please bring a set of work clothes, as we will be doing some projects and
conducting some fun events. If we have
received your uniform order in enough time, your order should be ready for
pick-up at the event.
We
will also conduct a very informative parents meeting from 10am-11am on Saturday,
April 26 at the Camp Friedlander Eagle’s Nest.
Parents of new staffers from both camps and other parents who would like
some information are invited to attend.
If
you are not able to attend the Staff Orientation, please contact us and let us
know. For Camp Friedlander staff, please
contact Camp Director, Lindsey Pigg, at 513-239-3275. For Cub World/Challenge Camp staff members,
