Cub Camping Presentations
|
How to get your Scouts excited about summer camp!
|

14 Day Camps and Twilight Camps are available throughout the council. |

The Adventure Camp and Fun with Son programs are a great enhancement to
your pack's summer program. |
|
Why hold a Cub camping presentation?
|
Cub Scouting doesn't stop with the end of the school
year! Summer camp is the highlight of the Cub Scout program, and it's a
proven fact that boys that go camping stay in Scouting. Every
pack should hold a Cub camping presentation to get Scouts excited about
the many camping opportunities in the Dan Beard Council, and to inform
parents about camp programs and their benefits.
When asked why their Scout did not attend summer camp, most parents
respond with the simple answer that they didn't know about the
programs! Pack leaders can help families get the most out of their
Scouting experience by sharing information with parents and making
summer camp a part of the pack's program calendar.
So why hold a Cub camping presentation? Because it's easy,
it's fun, and it benefits every Scout, parent, and pack! |
When to hold a Cub camping presentation:
|
The best time to
hold a presentation
is during your pack's Blue and Gold Banquet. You will have the largest
audience of Scouts and parents, and, unlike a Pinewood Derby or regular
pack meeting, you will have the attention of everyone in the room. Blue
and Gold Banquests are a great time to show a promotional video, hand
out camp information, and talk to your Cub Scout families about summer
camp opportunities.
If it's not possible to hold a presentation
during your Blue and Gold Banquet, any pack meeting during the winter
or early spring will do. Just set the presentation as an agenda item,
and make sure it happens during a time in the meeting when you will
have the largest audience and the most attention. At the end of the
meeting is a good time, when you know parents will be there and you can
make sure materials you hand out won't get lost.
|
Who should present?
|
Anyone can put on a
Cub camping presentation! Find an
enthusiastic adult in your pack that can get others excited about
summer camp. They don't necessarily have to have been to camp before,
but it helps.
If you prefer to have someone outside your pack put on a presentation,
there's plenty of help available. Contact
your District Executive to request a presentation be done at
your pack. Members of the Council Camping Committee are also eager to
present to your pack -- click
here to send an email request for a presentation to be held
at one of you meetings. |
What do I need to hold a presentation?
|
There are plenty
of materials available to help you put
on an effective presentation. Promotional materials will get your
Scouts excited about the summer camp programs, and informational
materials will help parents understand what the program is about,
important dates and fee information, and how to sign up. Click
here to download a sample agenda for a great presentation.
