Jamboree-on-the-Air

Would you like to be able to talk to Scouts and Scouters in other countries?  One of the longest running events in the World Organization of Scouting Movement is the Jamboree-on-the-Air (JOTA).  JOTA has been a part of the international scout scene since 1958.  JOTA allows Scouts from all levels and areas of the scouting movement around the world to talk to each other through amateur radio (ham radio).  JOTA happens on the third full weekend of October.

Many scout troops, patrols, cub packs or dens meet with local ham radio operators to participate in this event each year.  Has your group participated in the past?  Were you able to make contacts with international scouts?  If so , please consider sending a short report on your activities to Wayne E.  Baughman, Dan Beard Council International Representative, at the address listed elsewhere in this section.  If you are interested in participating in this year’s JOTA, make contact with a local ham radio operator or club, or contact Mark Reising, WM8R, wm8r@fuse.net, for more information on ham radio and scouting.

As in past years, there will be a ham radio station set up at Camp Friedlander for the summer, and Radio Merit Badge will be offered as one of the regularly scheduled merit badge programs.  Ham radio license exams are also being offered each Thursday evening at summer camp.  Contact Mark Reising at wm8r@fuse.net for more information.
