A note from the Course Director:

Dan Beard Council is entering into its 11th season of presenting an internal Wilderness First Aid curriculum to support its High Adventure Crews by providing local, low cost and professional-level medical training.  This is done by the diligent and difficult work of some very special volunteers, and they deserve our respect and support.

One of the things that the Instructor Cadre has noted over the years is in regard to the student composition, while its MY determination that we invite older Scouts and Venturers into this class (and discount their admission) a small group from any single unit can turn into a problem.  Typically a group of 3 or more just drops into a school behavior pattern and pretty much tunes out the instruction and activities as they retreat into their phones, and the entire class is compromised thereby.  Test scores suffer and on-the-ground performance is drastically affected, and the overall quality of the class is not enhanced.  In addition, we have finite limits to our class sizes and while its great to have your entire group trained up, other adults and youth are driven out of Council into more expensive and less convenient venues.

In conclusion, we ask you please not to register more than 2 adults or 2 Scouts/Venturers in any one WFA session!  Spread this out and let your graduates to train up their peers and work it in that direction.

Thank You,

Barry Akins
