National Youth Leadership Training

National Youth Leadership Training

What Is NYLT?
National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is the council level training program for youth. It is a seven-day outdoor experience for youth leaders in support of the Scoutmaster's responsibility for training the Troop's Youth Leaders. The course is set up to represent a month in the life of a typical Scout troop. It is conducted by the Training Committee using an outline approved by the Boy Scouts of America.

What Is Its Purpose?
Scouting recognizes that Scoutmasters' have the responsibility of training their own Youth Leaders. The purpose of the new National Youth Leadership Training is not to assume that role, but to support it. The objectives of the conference are:
• To enhance the relationship between the participant and his Scoutmaster.
• To have fun.
• To give participants a toolbox of leadership skills and help them relate these skills to their troop responsibilities.
• To give participants the opportunity to share ideas and experience with Scouts from other troops.
• To give participants the confidence and knowledge to run the troop program.
• To create an atmosphere where Scouts will experience Scouting at it's best.

Who May Attend?
Registered Boy Scouts, at least First Class rank, age 13 or older, who have their parents and Scoutmaster approval.

Registration is through your Scoutmaster!

Is the Home Scoutmaster Involved?

YES! The conference is intended to strengthen the relationship between the Youth Leader and his Scoutmaster. A pre-conference session will be conducted for the Scoutmaster or an adult leader from the Troop and the Youth Leader on the application of the newly acquired skills to best serve the Troop program and develop his leadership potential.
