Will Camperships Applications be accepted after the May 1 deadline?
While applications for camperships can be submitted after the deadline,
the possibility of receiving the requested funding is greatly
decreased. Funding allocation is limited, and the Campership Committee
will do it's best to distribtue the funds as widely as possible prior
to the deadline to ensure all genuine requests are fulfilled. After the
deadline, extreme need cases will be reviewed in regards to (any)
remaining funding.
Are Camperships available for adults?
Camperships are available only for youth, as the purpose of the
Campership program is to help Scouts attend camp. Funding for the
Campership program is given with the specific direction that it be used
for Scouts. The
Camp Friedlander and
Cub World Adventure Camp
programs waive fees for a certain number of leaders depending on
Scout attendance. For further assistance possibilities for adults,
please contact your District Executive.
What sort of project should a Scout complete to earn a Campership?
The content, location, and degree of difficulty of the project
associated with the Campership is up to the Unit Leader and Committee
Chairman. There are no specific requirements to the project, as
long as they accomplish the objective of having the Scout feel that he
is "earning" his way to camp. It is strongly recommeded that the
service be completed at one of the Dan Beard Council camps. Scouts
will feel more of a sense of ownership of the camp and achievement of
the Campership by helping with service at the camp he will be
attending.
Is there a dollar amount associated with each hour of service completed?
No, however, this requirement may be suggested by the Unit Leader or Committee Chairman if deemed applicable.
If a Scout can still not pay the remaining fees for camp beyond the 50%, is additional aid available?
It is the goal of the Camping Committee to send as many Scouts to camp
as possible, so the 50% aid from camperships is a fixed amount. In an
extreme need case, you may be able to work with your District Executive
to locate additional funds to assist with the remaining camp fees.
How is the Campership applied to camp fees?
After an application has been approved, a Campership voucher in the
name of the receiving Scout will be mailed to the leader named on the
application. The voucher should be submitted to the Scout Service
Center when making a camp fee payment. For online payments, the
voucher must still be submitted to the Scout Service Center and a
credit will applied to your online balance.
