PURPOSE
The Boy Scouts of America has many ways in which to
recognize and honor outstanding adult leaders. It is important that we
recognize effective leadership or we may lose the services of volunteers that we
truly need. One way we can do this through effective use of adult awards and
recognitions.
This section is designed to
identify what these awards are, how they can be obtained, and to ensure that the
requirements are easily understood and universally applied within the council.
In some cases, the award can be earned and applied for by the participant.
Other awards require nomination from the leader’s peers. These awards fall
under 4 major categories for national and council-level awards: Participation, Program, Service, and Training.
In addition there are also a number of district-level awards. Click
on each award to see a full description of its requirements and to obtain the award’s application or nomination form.
Be certain that you
identify and recommend recognition for leaders that are particularly effective.
Please do NOT depend on others to do this. At the same time, please take the time to apply for awards that you have earned
yourself.

PURPOSE
These awards recognize a person's training in various BSA
roles.
In most cases, these
awards can be earned and applied for by the participant. Doing this should
not be seen as "stroking the personal ego". Training awards can take
significant effort and this effort needs to be recognized. Also the
presentation of such awards can be an example for others, who might not even
know that this training opportunity exists.
Be certain that you work towards completing training awards
appropriate for your involvement in BSA activities and apply for them when
completed.

PURPOSE
These awards recognize a person's importance to BSA through
district-level awards. Districts are allowed by National to develop their
own awards to recognize such persons. The following awards have had some
level of use within districts in the Dan Beard Council. Districts can use
these directly or develop their own. Note that all of these awards may not
be in use in each district. For clarification, contact your District
Advancement Chair. It would help the total program if districts would
notify the Council Advancement Chair if additional awards are developed, so
those can be posted also.
Be
certain that you identify and recommend recognition for unit and district-level
leaders that are particularly effective as this encourages them and strengthens
the total program.
